A new technological approach has emerged for upgrading lighting infrastructure along coastal waterways. A domestic maritime equipment R&D team has successfully completed a large-scale pilot deployment of hydrogen‑powered navigational light buoys, effectively addressing the longstanding challenge of insufficient endurance faced by conventional solar‑powered beacons during overcast, rainy, or typhoon‑prone conditions.

The hydrogen‑powered beacon lighting system deployed this time employs a fuel‑cell–based energy storage synergy architecture, enabling a single hydrogen refueling to sustain continuous, stable operation of the LED navigation lights for more than 390 days. It is well suited for remote, unmanned maritime areas, with light intensity and visibility that fully comply with international navigational standards, while its zero‑emission characteristics align with the environmental‑friendly upgrading requirements of Blue Harbor.

In the high‑risk vessel‑equipment sector, IIC‑rated explosion‑proof LED luminaires have undergone material and process upgrades. Featuring a 316L stainless‑steel housing paired with an explosion‑proof sealing structure, they are suitable for use in flammable and explosive enclosed spaces such as LNG carrier pump rooms and cargo holds. Compared with conventional explosion‑proof luminaires, the new models reduce heat generation by 45% and significantly enhance explosion‑proof safety redundancy, and have already been deployed in large quantities on numerous newly built specialized transport vessels.

Industry analysts point out that maritime lighting will evolve along two major growth trajectories: first, the development of fully integrated, ship‑wide smart lighting systems for ocean‑going vessels; and second, the provision of new‑energy lighting solutions for coastal navigation aids and offshore platforms. Suppliers with capabilities in materials R&D, system integration, and project‑specific customization are poised to maintain a core competitive edge in the market.
